BE-UP is an accredited Performing Arts School based in central Pretoria at State Theatre.
Black Education Upgrading was established in 1988 by the veteran Actor, Award winner for Television roles as well as Best Scriptwriter, Lucky (Bra Bizza) Legodi.
BE-UP MANDELA AWARDS
In 1995 this project presented several Newspapers Such as Sowetan and Pretoria News with, Be-Up Nelson Mandela Awards at Pretoria City Hall.
BE-UP was Honouring our best Actors and Actresses who took part in our stage dramas as well as Films. which we have produced for SABC, films such as Study Smart 2. Most dignitaries such as former President Thabo Mbeki and Jacob Zuma were there to grace the occasion, including Professor Sbusiso Bengu who was Minister of National Education by then.
BE-UP has been created in order to facilitate opportunities for young people to acquire skills to access job opportunities and also to create meaningful opportunities for self-employment.
BE-UP is looking forward to helping more previously disadvantaged youth in the developing world to build profitable businesses that create income, opportunity and economic growth through performing arts.
It is only through this all-embracing medium of Arts Discipline which includes

The above-mentioned activities are instilling a sense of African pride and Heritage in our people.
BE-UP School classes are carefully designed to suit the needs of the participants and are ranging from weeklong residencies to six hours per day slots.
BE-UP is aiming to provide individuals with an exciting, dynamic and useful insight into the world of performing arts which includes Drama, script writing, Dance and Acting for TV.
The combination of Drama, script writing and Dance has been carefully balanced to address questions of employability as well as the independent development of youth’s talent.
It is also expected that on completion of their training, they will end up having a sense of the industry in which they will work and the confidence to present themselves as freelancers in this industry OR In charge of their own businesses or production companies for self-employment.
From the year 1989 up to now BE-UP has adapted more than twenty African Literature Set workbooks from Stage to Films, This includes two of Bessie Head novels (Maru and When Rain Clouds ) Gather) In 2013 BE-UP produced a Thirteen Television Series called Wa Thintha Bafazi wa Thintha Umbokoto which is currently playing on air in Mzanzi Magic
The Youth Drama Program at Black Education Upgrading has been a hub for young talent for many years. Offering Acting Classes for youth, the program is designed and delivered by industry professionals with a passion for making a difference in young people’s lives so that they can create job opportunities in the film industry as Actors, and improve their chances at landing a great role!

Ours expect directors and professional actors will show how it’s done in the film industry, The youth will be able to develop skills in screen testing and auditioning, screen acting technique using scripts from film and television and how to go about devising their short films.
